Proton Acceleration in Plasma Waves Produced by Backward Raman Scattering
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper proposes a new method of proton acceleration. A slow plasma wave produced by backward Raman scattering captures slow protons injected. A density gradient of a plasma enables the wave phase velocity to increase as the proton test beams are accelerated. A proof-of-principle experiment is proposed using a T laser and test beams from a Van de Graaff accelerator, in which a 500mJ laser will give acceleration gain of ∼ 50MeV in a distance of 500μm.

In this paper, stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and electron heating in laser plasma propagating along the plasma fusion is investigated by particle-in cell simulation. Applying an external magnetic field to plasma, production of whistler waves and electron heating associated with whistler waves in the direction perpendicular to external magnetic field was observed in this simulation. The pla...
متن کاملThe Plasma Beat Wave Accelerator - I Experiments
In the Plasma Beat Wave Accelerator, acceleration is achieved by a longitudinal electrostatic field produced as a result of charge separation generated by a plasma wave traveling close to the speed of light. The plasma wave in turn is produced by two colinear laser pulses whose amplitude is modulated so that the beat frequency matches the plasma frequency. Optical mixing and Raman forward scatt...

The phase space evolution in a non-relativistic and homogeneous laser plasma in the presence of the stimulated Raman scattering is investigated. The mechanism of the electron acceleration in the potential wells of the plasma wave accompanying the Raman backscattering is analyzed by Vlasov-Maxwell simulations. In addition to the interaction with the primary wave a cascading is observed consistin...

CO2 laser-plasma interactions provide a unique parameter space for using a gas jet for Target Normal Sheath Acceleration (TNSA) of ions instead of a thin foil target. The generation of 1-5 MeV protons from the interaction of a 3 ps TW CO2 laser pulse with a gas target with a peak density around the critical plasma density (10 cm) has been studied by 2D particle-in-cell simulations. The proton a...
